- Tour Itinerary
At 0800 AM, we will be transferring you to the boat dock in Puerto Acosta. Here you will board the motorized boat for your 30-minute journey along the Madre de Dios River to our exclusive Ecolodge.
Our team will assist you with the registration process. After a short rest here, we will embark on our tour of the Tambopata National Reserve.
CANOPY WALK: We will start with a short walk of 200 meters from our lodge to the Canopy Tower. It stands 35 meters high and is built at the foot of a massive Lupuna Tree. This tree symbolizes the Amazon for its enormous size.
Throughout the day, you will be able to observe various bird species here. Our local expert will provide detailed explanations about the flora and fauna of the area.
ZIP-LINING: Once you have completed the canopy walk, we will move on to zip-lining. Our local instructor will give you safety tips and provide information on how to make the most of this activity. Once you’re ready, you’ll glide down the 190-meter-long zip line.
One of our guides will meet you and help you cross a small 100m bridge. Then you’ll return to the starting point by zip-lining.
After this exhilarating experience, we will return to the lodge for lunch. Our team will serve you an authentic Amazonian meal. Following lunch, you’ll have time to relax in the hammocks at our lodge.
KAYAKING: In the early afternoon, we will embark on a kayaking adventure. We will use kayaks from our lodge, and our team will assist you in getting equipped with all the necessary safety gear.
Once everything is ready, we will begin the experience. A safety boat will accompany us to ensure that all travelers are doing well.
You’ll then have the chance to cool off from the Amazonian heat by taking a dip in the refreshing waters of the Madre de Dios River.
MONKEY ISLAND: After enjoying kayaking, we will return to our boat for a 15-minute ride downstream to Monkey Island. As the name suggests, the island is home to various species of monkeys.
You’ll see a group of Capuchin monkeys, Black Monkeys (Cebus apella), White Monkeys (Cebus albifrons), among others. Accompanied by a local expert, you’ll get close to them and even feed them while witnessing their coexistence in the Tambopata National Reserve.
After this experience, we will return to the lodge by 0430 PM, where you’ll have the opportunity to witness the Amazon sunset.
NIGHT BOAT RIDE: After sunset, we will embark on a boat ride equipped with reflectors and headlamps to spot alligators. The reflected lights from their eyes will make it easier for you to spot them at night.
You’ll get to see White Alligators and Dwarf Caimans here.
By 0730 PM, we will return to the lodge for dinner and a well-deserved rest.
You will arise to the melodic calls of birds greeting the day. Our staff will serve you a delectable Amazonian breakfast, featuring fresh fruit juice, a steaming cup of Peruvian coffee, eggs, pancakes, fried plantains, and more.
By 09:30 AM, we will board a boat to cross the river and reach the control post, where local authorities will register visitor details. From there, we’ll embark on a one-hour, three-kilometer hike to reach Sandoval Lake.
During the hike, you’ll have the chance to spot various types of flora and fauna, including the possibility of encountering giant river otters and other mammals.
Upon reaching the shores of Lake Sandoval, we’ll indulge you with a delightful lunch amidst the lush jungle surroundings. Then, we’ll navigate to the lake’s center by rowboat to observe additional bird and mammal species.
The area is inhabited by hoatzins, cormorants, and anhingas. On occasion, adventurers have glimpsed the famous “Playful River Wolves.” Following this immersive experience at Lake Sandoval, we’ll return to the lodge.
Around 06:30 PM, we’ll set out on a night hike to observe more nocturnal creatures within the protected area, with our guide providing detailed explanations.
At approximately 07:30 PM, we’ll head back to the lodge for dinner.
On the third day of the journey, we’ll start your day with a hearty Amazonian breakfast. By approximately 8:00 in the morning, we’ll embark on a trek to visit a local community, offering you a firsthand glimpse into their traditional way of life. Our destination includes an indigenous family known for their ancient warrior and hunter lineage, where you’ll have the opportunity to observe their age-old customs and practices.
Renowned for their artistic prowess, this family also showcases their paintings, available for purchase if you’re interested.
Following the visit, we’ll head out on a boat excursion to a nearby ravine for some rustic fishing, where you’ll encounter various fish species such as catfish, maiden, sardines, or piranhas.
Upon returning to the lodge with our catch, our chef will prepare a delicious lunch seasoned with traditional spices. Afterward, you’ll have the rest of the evening free to relax in the hammocks.
Finally, dinner will be served later in the evening, allowing you to conclude the day with a satisfying meal.
The final day of your Tambopata Peru Tour commences with an early morning boat transfer from the lodge. We’ll visit the Parrot Clay Lick, where, after some settling time, a myriad of birds will gradually descend to the cliff to feed on the clay.
You’ll have the chance to spot blue-headed parrots, macaws, parakeets, and other bird species as well. This activity lasts approximately 1 hour, providing ample time for filming and capturing the best views, all while enjoying the stunning jungle sunrise.
By 7:00 AM, we’ll return to the lodge for breakfast. Afterward, we’ll transfer you to our office in Puerto Maldonado. Depending on your flight or bus schedule, we’ll then transport you to the airport or bus terminal.
