We commence our journey at 10:00 in the morning from the Sandoval Lake office or with a pick-up from your Hotel. A scenic 2-hour drive awaits, navigating the interoceanic highway and then a tran quil road leading to the banks of the Tambopata river. There, our boat and skilled motorist await, ready to whisk us upstream for approximately 30 minutes until we reach our Lodge, “TAMBOPATA INN”. Along the way, keep your eyes peeled for a variety of riverside birds, capybaras, and white caimans. Upon arrival at our Lodge, refreshments await, along with a briefing on the array of services available during your stay. After settling into your respective rooms, take a leisurely walk to familiarize yourself with the surroundings. Following a hearty lunch, we embark on a guided walk through the primary forest, immersing ourselves in the rich biodiversity and learning about key economic activities in the region. Keep watch for monkeys and other mammals in their natural habitat as we traverse the ancient trees. As the sun sets, we return for an evening excursion, armed with flashlights, to observe alligators, capybaras, and the elusive felines that roam the riverbanks under the cloak of darkness. After dinner, for those still brimming with energy, we offer the opportunity for a short night walk in search of nocturnal creatures, from insects and arachnids to tarantulas, snakes, armadillos, night monkeys, and even the elusive tapir lurking near the Lodge.

Rise and shine! We start our day bright and early with a delightful coffee before embarking on an upstream journey at 5:00 am, allowing us to bask in the breathtaking sunrise scenery exclusively from our boat. With the Tambopata National Reserve as our backdrop, we’ll keep our eyes peeled, as there’s a 20% chance of encountering the majestic jaguar or perhaps even spotting an anaconda along the riverbanks.

Upon reaching our destination, we’ll be treated to a spectacular display of parrots and macaws, witnessing firsthand why these birds, along with many other mammals, rely on the clay from this natural wall as a vital part of their daily diet year-round. This captivating show will keep us entertained from 6:00 am until approximately 11:00 am, with a delicious breakfast served right in front of the Collpa Chuncho.

After concluding our activities here, we’ll make a brief visit to the checkpoint, where a small museum awaits to provide further insights into the region. Following this, we’ll return to our Lodge for a delectable lunch, followed by a relaxing break. Later, we’ll visit the Mississippi ravine waterfall for a refreshing dip, followed by an exploration of the diverse products cultivated in the fertile lands of Madre de Dios.

As the afternoon begins to wane, we’ll embark on a scenic canoe ride downstream for 20 minutes, followed by a two-hour journey by truck back to Puerto Maldonado, concluding our unforgettable expedition through the wonders of Tambopata.
