DAY 1: WELCOME TO THE JUNGLE

Reception upon arrival at the airport or land terminal, followed by transfer to the Jungle Retreat office for registration. Optional city tour to Plaza de Armas and Plaza Grau viewpoint, offering views of Madre de Dios and Tambopata rivers’ confluence.

Embarkation at Capitanía Port for a 40-minute boat journey along the Madre de Dios River to our lodge. Welcome meeting with local fruit juice upon arrival and room allocation.

Monkey Island excursion: Encounter Capuchin, Black, and White monkeys in their natural habitat. Return to the lodge for a relaxing afternoon by the Madre de Dios River, followed by a sunset view from hammocks.

Evening activity includes a boat tour to observe alligators, nocturnal birds, and Capybaras along the riverbank. Dinner and overnight stay.

DAY 2: EXPLORING LAKE SANDOVAL

On the second day of our journey, we’ll set out for Lake Sandoval at 8:00 am. A boat ride along the Madre de Dios River will take us to the entrance of the lake, a scenic journey of approximately 40 minutes. Upon arrival, we’ll disembark and take a brief stroll to reach the Sandoval Lake Control Post, where we’ll register and obtain our entrance tickets, as the lake resides within the Tambopata National Reserve. Continuing on, we’ll embark on a 3 km hike, expected to take about 45 minutes.

During this excursion, you’ll have the opportunity to observe a diverse range of flora and fauna, including various bird species, monkeys, rodents, arachnids, insects, reptiles, and amphibians.

Once we reach the lake’s shores, you can indulge in a refreshing swim in its pristine waters. Following your swim, you’ll savor a delicious, typical jungle lunch before embarking on a rowboat excursion around the lake. During this boat ride, we’ll seek out bird species such as hoatzins, cormorants, anhingas, and, if we’re lucky, the playful River Wolves, a highlight of Lake Sandoval.

In the afternoon, you’ll return to the banks of the Madre de Dios River with your guide, where a boat will be waiting to transport you back to our jungle lodge. Optionally, you can join a night walk to explore the surrounding area further.

Dinner will be served at the lodge, followed by an overnight stay.

DAY 3: NATIVE FAMILY VISIT

On the third day of our journey, we’ll start with breakfast at 8:00 a.m.

In today’s increasingly modernized world, we often overlook the rich cultures and traditions of ancient peoples. This day offers a unique opportunity to connect directly with a native family, gaining insight into their time-honored customs and way of life. It’s a chance to immerse ourselves in the traditions of these indigenous peoples, who have preserved their ancestral practices through generations. Additionally, there’s an opportunity to support them financially by purchasing some of their handcrafted products.

In the afternoon, we’ll embark on our next activity: rustic fishing. We’ll journey by boat to a nearby ravine, where we’ll engage in traditional fishing methods, hoping to catch fish like catfish, maiden, sardines, or piranhas.

Afterward, we’ll return to the lodge for dinner and a well-deserved rest.

DAY 4: ECO-ADVENTURE

After meeting our staff and leaving the luggage in their rooms, we will go to our adventure center.

CANOPY

Walk through the forest (200 meters) until you reach the Canopy Tower, which is 35 m. High up, it is built at the foot of an immense lupuna Tree representative of the Amazon due to its majestic size, during the day there is the possibility of seeing a variety of birds in addition to the fabulous natural landscape on the trees, the guide will explain about the fauna and local flora.

ZIP LINE.

After enjoying the walk through the Canopy bridge, we will start with the activity of the zip line, the guide will explain how to do it, they will be placed in the equipment used to carry out the activity and the necessary equipment for their safety after the instructions that Provided by the Guide you will be able to slide down the 190 meter long zip line, at the other end the assistant will receive you to help you cross another small 100m bridge. and return by another 190 m long line shot to the starting point.

After leaving all the equipment we return to the Lodge for lunch.

LUNCH

After a comforting lunch we can take a nap in the hammocks, after that we will be ready for our next adventure.

KAYAK

The kayak activity starts from the Lodge, we will take the kayaks and the oars and after putting on the life jackets we will board the boat and then start the activity and enjoy this adventure, for your safety there will always be a boat that will follow the group accompanying you down the river A good opportunity to bathe in the waters of Madre de Dios and to de-stress from our activities in the city.

Return to the lodge, dinner and rest.

DAY 5: COLLPA DE LOROS “CACHUELA”

4:00 a.m. From our ranch we will embark on a boat that will take us to our destination “la collpa de loros”. We will cross the Madre de Dios River for approximately an hour and a half, on the way we will be able to appreciate varieties of flora and fauna, specifically diversity of birds in dynamism with nature and a beautiful sunrise.

At 6 a.m. approx. Arriving we will locate ourselves in a strategic place at a prudent distance to wait for the arrival of various species of parrots and hopefully macaws; especially you will have the opportunity to observe the blue-headed parrots, auroras, parakeets and some birds of other species as well. In this place, the clay has mineral salts from which these birds feed before carrying out their common activity in the jungle, such as feeding on fruits and others in order to neutralize the toxins from the ingested fruits. This activity lasts about 1 hour, it is the time you will have to film and take the best views, contemplate these beautiful and interesting birds accompanied by a beautiful jungle sunrise.

Around 7:00 in the morning we will be returning to our hostel to have the last breakfast and then we will go back to the city of Puerto Maldonado.
