DAY 2: EXPLORING LAKE SANDOVAL

At 8:00 am, we will set off on a boat journey along the Madre de Dios River, heading towards the entrance of Lake Sandoval, a journey that lasts approximately 40 minutes. Upon arrival, we’ll disembark and proceed to the Lake Sandoval control post, where registration and ticket presentation are required, as the lake lies within the Tambopata National Reserve. Following this, we’ll embark on a 3 km walk, expected to take around 45 minutes.

During our excursion, you’ll have the opportunity to encounter a diverse range of flora and fauna, including birds, monkeys, rodents, arachnids, insects, reptiles, and amphibians.

Upon reaching the lake’s shores, feel free to indulge in a refreshing swim in its pristine waters. Afterwards, enjoy a delectable jungle lunch before boarding a rowing boat for a leisurely exploration of the lake. Here, we’ll seek out various bird species such as hoatzins, cormorants, and anhingas, with the highlight being the chance to spot the playful River Wolves.

In the afternoon, in coordination with your guide, we’ll depart from the lake and return to the banks of the Madre de Dios River, where our awaiting boat will ferry us back to our lodge.

An optional night walk awaits those interested in further exploration, followed by a delightful dinner and overnight stay.

DAY 3: CULTURAL IMMERSION AND RUSTIC FISHING

At 8:00 a.m., we’ll begin the day with breakfast.

In our fast-paced modern society, it’s easy to overlook the rich cultures and traditions of ancient civilizations. The Native Family Visit offers a unique opportunity to connect directly with a family of indigenous warriors and hunters, immersing ourselves in their ancestral customs. This experience not only allows us to learn from their traditions but also provides a chance to support them financially by purchasing some of their handmade products.

Later in the day, we’ll embark on another engaging activity: rustic fishing. Boarding the boat, we’ll journey to a nearby ravine where we’ll try our hand at catching fish such as catfish, maidens, sardines, or even piranhas.

As the day winds down, we’ll return to the lodge for dinner and a well-deserved rest.

DAY 4: NIGHT EXPLORATION IN TAMBOPATA

We will commence our journey at 8:30 in the morning from our lodge. The excursion spans 2 hours, with the initial hour spent traversing the interoceanic highway and then navigating a less congested road to the Tambopata riverbank. Here, our awaiting boat and motorist will usher us upstream for roughly 30 minutes until we reach our lodging, “COLLPAS TAMBOPATA INN”. Along the way, opportunities abound to spot various riverside birds, capybaras, and white caimans. Upon arrival, a warm welcome awaits with a refreshing beverage and an overview of the amenities offered during your stay. After settling into your respective accommodations, take a leisurely stroll for a better acquaintance with the surroundings.

Following lunch, indulge in a brief respite before embarking on a forest walk amidst ancient trees. Gain insights into the region’s key economic activities such as agriculture, mining, logging, and ecotourism while keeping an eye out for monkeys and other wildlife in their natural habitat.

As dusk approaches, we’ll retrieve our flashlights for an evening expedition to observe alligators, capybaras, and potentially nocturnal felines prowling along the riverbank.

After dinner, for those still brimming with energy, a short nocturnal hike presents the opportunity to encounter various insects, arachnids, and nocturnal creatures such as snakes, armadillos, night monkeys, or tapirs in the vicinity of the lodge

DAY 5: TAMBOPATA'S WILDLIFE ODYSSEY

Rising early at 5:00 am, we embark on a scenic boat ride upstream, basking in the breathtaking sunrise exclusive to our expedition. With a 20% chance of encountering majestic jaguars or stealthy anacondas along the Tambopata National Reserve’s shores, the journey holds promises of thrilling wildlife sightings.

Upon arrival, we’re treated to a mesmerizing spectacle of vibrant parrots and macaws, delving into the significance of the clay-rich walls essential for their nourishment. From 6:00 am to 11:00 am, we’re immersed in this captivating display, culminating in a delightful breakfast overlooking the Collpa Chuncho.

Following this, a brief museum visit provides insights into the region’s biodiversity before indulging in a delicious lunch at our lodge. Afterward, a visit to Quebrada el Gato’s waterfall offers a refreshing dip and a glimpse into the area’s agricultural richness.

As the afternoon unfolds, we embark on a canoe journey downstream, followed by a two-hour truck ride back to Puerto Maldonado, concluding our unforgettable exploration of Tambopata’s natural wonders.
