DAY 3: NATIVE FAMILY VISIT

On the third day of our journey, we’ll start with breakfast at 8:00 a.m.

In today’s increasingly modernized world, we often overlook the rich cultures and traditions of ancient peoples. This day offers a unique opportunity to connect directly with a native family, gaining insight into their time-honored customs and way of life. It’s a chance to immerse ourselves in the traditions of these indigenous peoples, who have preserved their ancestral practices through generations. Additionally, there’s an opportunity to support them financially by purchasing some of their handcrafted products.

In the afternoon, we’ll embark on our next activity: rustic fishing. We’ll journey by boat to a nearby ravine, where we’ll engage in traditional fishing methods, hoping to catch fish like catfish, maiden, sardines, or piranhas.

Afterward, we’ll return to the lodge for dinner and a well-deserved rest.

DAY 4: CONSERVATION ENDEAVORS

Taricaya Conservation Initiatives:

BOTANICAL AND ZOOLOGICAL RESEARCH: Each year, comprehensive studies are conducted to analyze and safeguard the diverse plant and animal life within the Reserve.

AGROFORESTRY AND CAOBAS INITIATIVE: In 2001, an agroforestry project was initiated on a 2000 m2 parcel of land to showcase sustainable farming practices and reforestation efforts. Witness the flourishing growth of mahogany, cedar, vibrant flowers, and tropical fruits, cultivating a productive forest that supports ecosystem restoration and sustainable land management. This endeavor aims to offer local communities a viable, eco-friendly approach to land utilization.

TARICAYA WILDLIFE RESCUE CENTER: Since 2004, the center has been dedicated to the rehabilitation of wild animals confiscated by local authorities from individuals who illegally removed them from their natural habitats. Upon arrival, these animals are often injured, ill, or undernourished, and are enrolled in a specialized rehabilitation program designed to restore their health and readiness for eventual release back into the wild. Through this initiative, the center actively contributes to the conservation and revitalization of indigenous wildlife populations.

DAY 6: COLLPA DE LOROS “CACHUELA”

4:00 a.m. From our ranch we will embark on a boat that will take us to our destination “la collpa de loros”. We will cross the Madre de Dios River for approximately an hour and a half, on the way we will be able to appreciate varieties of flora and fauna, specifically diversity of birds in dynamism with nature and a beautiful sunrise.

At 6 a.m. approx. Arriving we will locate ourselves in a strategic place at a prudent distance to wait for the arrival of various species of parrots and hopefully macaws; especially you will have the opportunity to observe the blue-headed parrots, auroras, parakeets and some birds of other species as well. In this place, the clay has mineral salts from which these birds feed before carrying out their common activity in the jungle, such as feeding on fruits and others in order to neutralize the toxins from the ingested fruits. This activity lasts about 1 hour, it is the time you will have to film and take the best views, contemplate these beautiful and interesting birds accompanied by a beautiful jungle sunrise.

Around 7:00 in the morning we will be returning to our hostel to have the last breakfast and then we will go back to the city of Puerto Maldonado.
